My newest tutorial just released, and it features a bar pendant with channel set facets accenting a central stone that is tension set onto the bar. While I absolutely adore the pendant from the tutorial and have also adapted it into a cuff which I wear quite often, I find that the real gem of the tutorial is the tension setting for tapered stones. Because that setting is so versatile I am challenging my followers to create their own pendant design using the setting.
Rules and Entry Information
No purchase necessary. If you think you can wing it and make the setting.... go for it!
Each entrant can submit only one design. This entry is not required to be a pendant, however, it should feature the tension setting from the tutorial as a prominent part of the overall design. Entrants will be able to submit up to three views of the pendant to showcase their work. By entering an image you agree that I can use it on my Instagram, Facebook, and Website in posts pertaining to the competition. All work featured as such will include attribution to the Entrant and if desired an @tag or store name.
Judging will be done by me and two others. Judges are not allowed to enter the contest in order to keep things fair. Judging will be done based on several categories, with each category being given a rating from 1-10. The final total on the piece will be a total of those rankings. The categories are as follows:
Technique - Technique will encompass both how well the tension setting was executed and how well the design and weaving of the pendant is put together. Judges will take into account things like weaves used, mounting of stones, wire endings, etc.
Creativity - How out of the box is your design? This will be based on how well you take the setting and implement your own style and take on it.
Aesthetic - This category will be based on the overall aesthetic of the piece. Is it clean? Does it flow well? Were the different parts well thought out and balanced.
Tie Breaker Categories
If we happen to have a tie between two pendants then the following categories will be used to determine tie breakers.
Photography and Lighting - Display your pendant in a way that shows off the design and the stones. Avoid bright glares that hide stone patterns. Take clear, clean pictures with no blurring of the details.
Materials DO NOT MATTER
I want everyone to be able to enjoy this contest, so there will be nothing in the judging that takes into account what the materials are. I don't care if your pendant is copper and glass, or if it's Sterling and Garnets, or if it's 24K gold and diamonds. Plated, craft wire, reclaimed electrical wire, anything goes. This is 100% based on the design of the pendant, so don't feel afraid to enter because of the materials you have available. We're pretty much all stuck at home right now and what we have is what we have.
Contest Dates
The contest will start on April 20, 2020 and will continue for two weeks until May 4, 2020. Entries will be accepted until midnight on the 4th. Judging will then take place and the winners will be announced by the following week on May 11, 2020.
