The situation in Australia breaks my heart. My family has good friends in Australia and I can remember proudly wearing a koala tshirt my father gave me after a visit. When I outgrew it I was devastated so my dad bought me a big stuffed koala that fit the shirt and he wore it for me. My collection of koala memorabilia grew. As I grew older my father visited Australia less, but that never stopped me from loving their wildlife, their beaches, their people, and that crazy platypus. This is my tribute to them.
If you have a second, look into the charities and give what you can. Every bit counts. Kangaroo Island, home to the last bastion of several species has been decimated, they'll need money, time, and hope to recover if the animals survived the blaze. At the moment it is a waiting game to find out if the Kangaroo Island Dunnarts have even survived or if the species went extinct due to their inability to outrun the flames. It's also touch and go whether or not the Glossy Black Cockatoos were able to escape the flames and if they return, will they be able to find enough food on the island to continue living there.
